How's that working out for you?

How's that working out for you?

It's a question I like to ask people sometimes when I'm trying to help them see a different perspective.

You foam roll and stretch regularly, but the muscle remains tight.

You do all kinds of mobility work, attend yoga, but you still can't touch your toes.

You go to the chiropractor, physio, osteo, masseuse regularly but still live in constant pain.

So I ask again, how is that working out for you? Could it be that what you are doing is not the answer to your issues? If it was, wouldn't it have helped by now?

The Original Strength System looks at these issues through a different lens. The following is taken from the book "Pressing Reset -Original Strength Reloaded."

The Original Strength system works on restoring "reflexive control."

What is reflexive control?

Reflexive control is the union of reflexive stability, mobility and strength. The more reflexive control that we have, the more we can do with our bodies.

A simple example of reflexive control is walking. When we walk, we don't have to think about what muscles to activate, we can just walk. It's a reflexive action which is coordinated via reflexive stability, mobility and strength.

Every time we move our reflexive control is tested. If it comes up short, our big brain goes into protection mode to save us from the perceived threat.

For example, if it detects a lack of stability in our hips, it might tighten your hamstrings and glutes so much that it causes pain when you bend forward. This is not great for you but, as far as your brain is concerned, if you don't lean forward, you're safe, so that's okay.

So now you have chronically tight hamstrings and a tweaky lower back which just won't go away no matter how much you stretch and foam roll.

What do you do now? Continue to stretch and roll?

How's that working out for you?

There's that question again. There is another way. Applying the simple movements ("Resets") in the Original Strength system are a way to remind the nervous system how to start coordinating reflexive stability, mobility and strength again.

Participating in regular movements like rocking, rolling and crawling can actually reboot the nervous system and restore reflexive control, where it might have been lost.

On the 20th of July, for the first time ever in Newcastle, we will be co-hosting an Original Strength Pressing Reset Certification with Valkyrie Functional Training.

If you have a body, then you will benefit from it. If you are a PT, your clients will benefit from it. If you are an allied health professional, you'll have another tool, add further value to your service. EARLY BIRD TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW!

In this eight hour workshop, will learn about the 3 Pillars of the Original Strength System.

1) You must breathe correctly, with your diaphragm.

2) You must activate your vestibular system - you have to move your head.

3) You must cross the midline with your limbs and/or engage in contra-lateral movement patterns.

These are taught by learning the Big 5 exercises.

1) Diaphragmatic Breathing 2) Head Control (specifically head nods) 3) Rolling 4) Rocking 5) Crawling/Cross Crawling/Gait patterns.

With each of these, you will be shown regressions and progressions so that no matter where you are now, you have a place to start improving.

As a person who has been using this system for three years now, I can tell you it's been one of the most life-altering things that I've come across.

My posture has improved, I rarely take pain medication anymore, and I seldom need to visit a chiropractor other than for the odd schedule service.

Another random but exciting benefit that I attribute directly to Original Strength is that my vision has improved and an Amblyopia (lazy eye) has all but disappeared.A few years earlier, I was all set to get prism reading glasses because I could no longer read subtitles on TV. I was also embarrassed to have my photo taken because my head was tilted at about 30 deg in every shot to compensate for my wandering eye.I never got the glasses, and I no longer freak out when I have my photo taken. I attribute this to regular application of eye led movement and head control exercises that I learned at one of these workshops.

"The OS system will help anyone, regardless of age, physical or mental abilities to breathe, move, and live better. We are here to help you or help you help others to Press RESET." Original Strength
