Keep Showing Up (Most Don't)

Introduction: I'm trialling a new shorter format for my once long-winded blog posts. My hope is this will allow me to post more frequently. Please let me know if you enjoy it.

"I think there are two keys to success. One is to show up. The other one is to keep going. Most people don't keep going."

~ Dan John

And that sums it up really.

Initially, the hardest part is showing up. Especially if you haven't trained for a while. Stepping out of the door (and your comfort zone - or comfortable bed) is not an easy thing to do.

But if you're reading this you probably did it (if not recently at one stage in your life), you took that first step towards a fitter and healthier you.

Do you remember how that felt? Probably a little bit exciting, motivation was high for a while until...

Until one day, it wasn't exciting.

That's where most people fall off the wagon and go back to their old ways. You've been there, and I've been there as well, it's human nature to fall back to comfort.

I gave up on comfort, excitement and motivation quite a long time ago. Now training is just something that I do, something that is part of my life, which makes the other aspects of my life better.

I rarely walk into the gym pumped to train, in fact, I'll share something with you,  a lot of the time I dread it, and given a choice, I'd rather do something else.

But I show up, and I've kept showing up now for nearly ten years in a row!

Not bad and the reward for this is I've changed my life, found a new career (that I love), become stronger than I've ever been in my life, become more resilient and mentally tough.

I'll continue to show up, not because weights are my life, but because weights add more to my life. They can do the same for you, but you've got to show up, and then you've got to keep going.
